The Market Crash Effect on Wildlife

The current market's impact will effect wildlife immediately, but its visible impact may be delayed months. Serious impacts down-the-line to our wildlife will be felt as curtailment of philanthropic efforts becomes evident, especially around year end. The current focus for most individuals is paying their mortgages and day-to-day bills.

Wildlife conservation organizations, just like any other private company, have to find creative ways to boost donations without incurring excessive advertising expenditures. As an example, the World Wildlife Fund has chosen to distribute a small in-mail holiday shopping catalog that comes in the regular mail and includes donation forms. The effectiveness of this campaign, as appossed to launching full blown expensive catalogs are yet to be seen, but the effectiveness of such campaigns is anticipated to be as good if not better on a cost per cost basis.

Another article, Economy vs. Wildlife - How will the economic situation impact wildlife? posted on this website discussed the impact on wildlife and much of that sentiment is felt by me and my colleagues.

I encourage all who read this article to reach deep into their pockets and determine if and how they can make the difference by supporting wildlife conservation even more in such difficult times. If we all band together we will reduce the adverse impacts the economy has on our world's wildlife.
