Creativity Breads Solutions: Saving Wildlife with Solar Farms

The challenges of 2009 have helped foster and stir the creative juices of many. Idea such as the recent announcement by researchers in the United Kingdom, that are proposing a solution to utilize green energy power plants as a means to protecting the environment and simultaneously supporting conservation of wildlife by providing the land as a wildlife haven, is just one example.

This concept, has merit for new solar plants that are established and that can be implemented from the planning stages, however no significant efforts have been made to address current, available land being used for other energy type plants. Windmill farms have sprung up over the US that occupy vasts amount of space, but practically utilize very little of the space. Efforts are being sought to utilize this space by conservation and other organizations but no significant cases are available to report yet.

In more rural areas, such as in Africa and Asia, smaller cities or villages would be able to make use of solar energy to support their mere existence and would potentially help save wildlife. Ensuring an adequate return on investment is a factor that has hindered this growth but as was noted in an article posted here earlier, there are efforts underway, with the help of funding, that have supported these efforts and made them a reality.

Taking small steps to reach larger heights may just be what is needed to change the perceptions of countries, nations and governments to adopt and adapt, utilize new technology and promote wildlife conservation to the fullest.
